Individuals who do not have competent reading abilities may have difficulty engaging in daily living skills, such as accurately reading prescription bottles, completing the written driver’s exam, applying for a lease on an apartment, a loan, or job, gaining access to information, furthering one’s education, and being informed. Struggling to read does not just affect the person’s academic skills, but every aspect of their lives, how they feel about themselves, how competent they feel they are to face the world, and how they learn.
The Center for the Assessment and Remediation of Reading Difficulties (CARRD) has been successfully helping struggling readers of all ages become competent readers for decades. Our evaluation and intervention tools are based on science, have been peer-reviewed by the scientific community, and are highly successful. Our mission is to help as many people become competent readers as possible.
Our services begin with a high-quality, science-based evaluation. The evaluation assesses reading and its subskills, spelling, comprehension, attentional abilities, and psychological and emotional functioning. Academic performance observed in the classroom and at home are also considered. After the evaluation, a detailed report is provided in addition to a feedback session for the parents to provide them with the results and to answer any questions.
Our evaluation and intervention services are currently being provided online only. In 2027, we will be offering our services both online and in-person at limited locations.
